It really did. Some of you may have noticed the website looks a little different… and is missing all the content. Well, there’s a reason for that. Let me break it down:
- Fen purchased dedicated server hosting from a company his friend recommended.
- A new company bought out that company after a while, and Fen kept using them.
- The new company decided to go out of business, and for whatever reason, the notification email got eaten by gmail’s spam filters. I don’t know why. I got invoice emails from them just fine.
- Thus, when the servers were turned off and plugs pulled, I lost access to that server and everything on it.
So what’s the plan going forward, and why does this site look so ugly now?
- We got a newer, better, stronger server. It should take a lot more to overload the site, and I have a gigantic data cap.
- We’re going to rebuild fenoxo.com. We can make it better, stronger, faster, and with just as many onahole advertisements as before.
- Note that the current wordpress theme is probably going to be changed. This is basically a quick placeholder while we get all the back-end pieces in place.
- We’re upgrading to some better forum software. Word on the street is that they’re more or less up and running, but there is a ton of administration stuff to do to get them up to spec.
Maybe this time I’ll remember to backup the server more than once every two years. TL;DR: Old server got eaten by forces of Chaos. Building up a new one, powered by the forces of Slaanesh.

The forum itself will come back fine. We just won’t have years of abandoned threads lying around, and all the writers are going to have to repost our stuff.

I kinda liked the way the site used to look, despite the fact that it was hard to read with my tablets brightness turned down to save power.
imo, I never *liked* the old site absolutely. It was alright, it was functional, and it was easy to read, but parts of it bugged me. Now, the problem is, every theme, every layout we poke about at to try and use as a replacement needs loads of effort to clean it up. As “mediocre” as I thought the old style was, it was pretty fucking okay in my book for just working right.
Ironic since Slaanesh is currently being spitroasted by a high elf and the merge of a dark elf and a dragon.

Did you guys lose all the old information? O_O I assume not, but that was a shitload of forum info and google docs, it can’t be easy to transfer with a simple copy and paste
disclaimer: I know nothing about building websites, coding, and pretty much everything else that takes longer than 20 minutes to do on a computer.
The useful data is gone, but on the plus side this means content from active writers that’s been languishing can get a fresh wave of attention. The projects of writers who’ve abandoned ship are probably lost for good, but a lot of that was going to be lost to the mists of time anyway. Try to think of it as shedding the clutter.
My condolences to the roleplayers, though.
I’m disappointed that there wasn’t a server backup for the forums. Even if the last backup was from late last year, it would have been enough to not have to restart completely from scratch. I fear that all of the abandoned threads that had gdocs are lost. The gdoc links would need to have been lifted before the server went offline if anyone ever wanted to read them.
It is what it is though, we’ll just have to manage if most of the stuff from the old server is gone.
I’m pretty sure I have a forum backup from 2013 somewhere, but anything that old doesn’t need to be brought back and necroposted. Besides, it’s a chance to upgrade to some nicer software.
Are there plans to increase back up frequency? Like once a month?
It would be nice nonetheless to have stuff from before 2013 to be placed within a read only archive that can’t be necroposted from. I’m not counting on this though, and I can understand if it isn’t worth it from your perspective. There were certain submissions from authors no longer around that I liked reading.

In the , I highly recommend Pastebin for character sheets. The fixed-width font offers advantages over Gdocs, and you can associate it with a username instead of an email.
Just set your font in google docs to a fixed-width font.
The wayback machine has a copy of the forum from march 31st or so, you can try to salvage stats from there
