Woke up today with massive intestinal upset. Hopefully I can still get some stuff done in a bit.
I also noticed a lot of people don’t like Riya.
I understand. Abusively dommy characters tend to be popular with a smaller subset of people. I’m sure someone will come up with a bimbofication or sluttification or general mindbreak path for her before long. It’s the one time of event submission I can wager on for sure most of the time.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to see if I can go eat something.
Feel better, mate. Know what caused it? May make it easier to find a remedy.
If a mind break path gets written for Riya would it get coded? A pretty fleshed out fight back path got written for Badger but was never coded.
Depends on if it makes sense. Walking into a mad scientist’s lair and turning the tables on her that way doesn’t really make sense. Turning around and having Penny get her arrest her does.
Riya presents some challenges – being in a crowded station, for example, but I’m sure the PC could find a way to lure her somewhere more private for surprise application of JUSTICE.
Does it have to be a mind break path? Because it seems that the method for a simpler, albeit less sexy, route is already available, and it being a crowded station just makes it easier: She has a tazer and seems willing to use it without provocation. I have many witnesses and very impressive lawyers.
I’m more curious about where does Franks’ opinion factor in there. I mean: if bimbos/bimbofication aren’t his cup of tea and he wouldn’t want to see that way (or any other) of resolving conflict with Riya getting implemented, what’s then?
Aside from that: get better soon, Fen-dono.
Mind break bimbotomizing her just fills i don’t know, sexy and kinky but also blase. Id more like steel to use his connection, go to a higher authority then her direct CO, or find a more subtle way to make Riya’s life an absolute miserable hell. some would not find much fun in breaking someone if there not even cognoscente of why there being broken in the first place, your basically turning her from comically xenophobic villain into a cum guzzling vacuum cleaner with the mentality of a child. for some true justice would be showing your complete dominance and superiority over her and forcing her to eat crow.
You mean sort of like the Sera enslavement path I read about in the doc detailing it?
Wowzers, this sure is a doozy
It isn’t TiTS if something in the game didn’t massively make a wide part of the playerbase visibly shake it’s fist at the devs and writers during it’s development cycle.
Hate boners are still boners!
Abusive and Dommy characters are my favorites, want to see more like Sera
Totally agree with you on this one.
Hell Yeah!
*****SPOILERS***** The method of dealing with her, was said to just move her to another far off station you’ll never visit. The author wanted to make her untouchable, not cater to special snow flakes. Don’t bother nagging the author, they got more then enough of that during Riya’s creation. They wanted to launch her off in bits and pieces since previous projects were to much.
So just have to ignore and wait if this character is to much
Untouchable? And your calling tha angry people “special snowflakes”? Really?
Special snowflake -characters-, i.e. people who insist that their oh-so-special PC be treated reverently at all times and that they should be able to enact elaborate psycho revenge schemes on anyone who would dare to be rude or mean.
So rather than saying that this particular character is so great “untouchable” here just means that the PC only has one sort of interaction with them and if they want to see it they’ll have to put up with some abuse. In other words there are no plans to “give them what they deserve” for rustling the jimmies of those who only want to see characters that instantly or very quickly come to worship them.
If this character is mean to your special snowflake you’ll just have to live with the fact that one particular character is rude and there’s nothing you can do about it.
Until someone writes a psycho revenge expansion, anyway.
“Untouchable” was not my words. Besides my point was that making an “untouchable” NPC makes them the special little snowflake. I was merely noting the hypocricy of that statement.
As for the rest, I don’t have an issue with npc’s being jerks to the PC. But I have my limits and I despise bigotry and racism as a rule so yes I hate Riya and want to see her receive retribution because of it but being “mean” to my pc a mere footnote. The fact it’s such a cartoony depiction doesn’t exactly help. Atleast with th red v gold Myr the xenophobia is understandable Riya’s racism purely to anger the player and in the end she’s just a waste of space.
Its some peeps fetish TM. This is the exact conversation the author had to endure but in the end, this character isn’t finished. I was also concerned with her location and out right bluntness but … well. The author just says to ignore it if you don’t like it, and that more will be added, this is just a piece of Riya.
Just try to calm yourself as best you can and ignore Riya, because Fen’s already gone on the forum conversation about this and laid down the warnings.
I get what you were saying. I was explaining that “untouchable” here just means that the content isn’t going to allow the PC to use their snowflake powers to get back at someone who’s mean to them and the content itself is even written with a specific bent that would rub people who need to enact those psycho revenge schemes the wrong way.
You’re not going to be able to get the mean racist cop fired just because you don’t like them or they offend your sensibilities. That’s the exact snowflake attitude she’s written against.
@balitz Method
Yep, that was also explained to the author. Trust me that this character’s been explained nicely and rudely. We just have to wait and see what will come of it. Whatever comes of it, its been “Fen approved”.
@balitz method
I’d say that it’s built to rub not just the players that want to enact psycho revenge plots, but anyone who’d try to use any method outside of the one that is designated as correct and intelligent. I mean, going to Riya’s superiors and filing a report – that thanks to the Codex Steele can provide video evidence for – isn’t particularly ‘psycho’ or unreasonable.
Hell, you can’t even have a moral victory of provoking a major reaction or misstep out of her.
Personally, I’m fine with having a character that displays such attitudes and whose author taunts the player like that. I just wished that Riya were more cunt-ish towards everyone, since it’d strengthen my headcanon of her racism being played up; and also that she would eventually get her backstory and interactions fleshed out, since I see quite a bit of potential there.
Even with the going to her boss content it comes off like you’re trying to use your snowflake clout to fire someone. In a cop movie Steele Jr. would be the rich little shit who demands to know the badge number of the loose cannon cop on the edge that pushed them around to get the job done.
The psycho revenge schemes always amount to Kelt-like content where someone wants to enact cray over-the-top revenge on someone who was just rude to them essentially.
With this character it seems like the author caught flak for it early and just wrote in some scenes that tease that mindset and provide an explanation as to why Steele Jr. can’t just snowflake them off to Space Siberia for being a jerk or pull off some embarrassing tropertale scene to to totes pwn her even if you can’t get her pension revoked.
And even if she’s a racist cop the attitude that this demands some kind of “explanation” is kind of weird. It’s not unreasonable to have a character like that and honestly it makes for nice variety to have some that just aren’t good people yet aren’t villains for the hero to conquer, either. She’s just a quasi-crooked cop who profiles and acts like a bigshot and there’s no fixing that or her.
The thing is going to the boss to report the hag and getting her fired is not “special snowflake” behaviour really it’s the right thing to do. Because her behaviour is something, in the civilised world at least, that would get an officer fired. But in the end, this is a fantasy game and it’s purpose is to entertain the player. And Riya seems to exist just to anger the player. I mean no offense to Fen or the writer when I say this but personally I think Riya is a mistake and should not have been added to the game.
Not exactly a quote but just relaying the explanation. Snow flake is the word going around the forum, take it up with them if you dislike it. Don’t shoot the messenger!
Sorry about that then.
Shocking! I’m a bit neutral on her myself. TiT’s has always struck me as the sort of game where kinks collide somewhat peacefully. What do people dislike specifically about the new character?
She’s racist as hell without so much of even a little of an explanation, neither ingame or in the forums, from what I’m seeing.
I’m not surprised. Too little of her content is smut and too much of it is explaining how she is an untouchable special snowflake. Overall it comes across as pretty trollish.
I think it was much smaller, but people kept pushing for explanations for why she’s a bitch and why Steele can’t just get rid of her, so the author wrote all that.
I’m told more sex is forthcumming.
It was that way from the beginning, or at least from when I first looked at it. I wouldn’t have had any real problem with Riya if there wasn’t so much text devoted to how untouchable she is.
So, in your opinion, Franks would have been better off not exploring those doomed to fail options of PC trying to deal with Riya and just leaving her sitting there until he’ll roll out the planned working way of getting rid of her?
pretty much
Absolutely.
Damn dude, you get a lot of jabs for being sick so often… i think there might be something to it XD
Abuse of power, bigotry, nepotism, about the only way she could’ve gotten a worse reception is if child sex slavery got mixed up in there.
I honestly don’t mind dommy characters so long as the PC isn’t chomping at the bit (a cookie goes to those who know what that means). As a submissive person, I like it when other people take charge and take what they want, and me getting satisfied in the process is a bonus.
I like Riya personally, I’m just hoping for some male pc scenes now that it’s in the game.
More doms pls.
This is my sentiment as well..
What, Dominant characters are the best. Maybe its because she’s only into girls
But Fen when can we turn the tables on doctor lash!!!! I would like to turn those credits he gave me into something useful since I can’t buy myself Emmy sex belt, a new Texas milker for myself or reaha, gaming system to allow game sex with Syri or even fix the phoenix ship with a shit ton of battle upgrades to give saendra a better chance against the black void
I don’t mind the dommy part of Riya, that’s right up my alley. What I’m put off by is the racism… same reason I don’t like Emmy, I get enough of that garbage in my day to day.
…but Emmy isn’t a racist… is she? Or do you mean because she mentions other people being racist to her back on Ausaril?
It’s been a while since I was Nyrean, but I distinctly remember her refusing to talk to or sell me anything while I was “one of the dirty locals”.
from the wiki “Anyone coming into her shop as a myr (gold, red, or orange) or nyrea will be instantly shooed out.”
Emmy is not racist, she is only following the order of U.G.C to not sell weapons to the planet’s locals for the current political affairs.
IMO, given that you can prove who you are with the codex, that doesn’t make sense.
It’s kinda explained away by her saying something along the lines of you could have killed someone and stolen it.
But then having a mindset like that is racially discriminatory at best if not openly racist.
Considering that the U.G.C. glasses the planet if you blow up the pirate station, simply because they thought the war had restarted, I think it would be supremely unreasonable to not expect her to err on the side of caution.
I mean it really doesn’t make sense to call that racially discriminatory. If you were at war for the survival of your species and could get weapons from a space age civilization, then it follows that there would at least be a chance that you would be willing to kill someone and take their id in order to do that.
Honestly, I just want to teach her a lesson. Just as Riya has connections, so do we; and we use those connections to get her fired, transferred, hell jailed for all I care. Just make sure you have to work for it, like making it into a side quest or something along those lines. Show her that she isn’t as untouchable as she believes she is, and what happens when you piss off the wrong person. I would rather have the choice to do so in a legal way, then the less savory ways; but hey to each their own.
