Would a successful rescue also change/move forward Kiro’s relationship with Steele? Doesn’t have to, but from an outside POV it seems like that would be a good vehicle for courting Kiro, who’s a lot more action oriented than Emmy, who prefers to be wooed like a lady. Like, I do agree some people use SJ stuff as a tool to attack people and silence people, and that changing things just because of backlash from those people is a bad idea, but nobody ‘made’ the creators do anything, and it’s pretty immature when the reaction to thinking they did is to try to force the creators to change it back, because I guess creators only get creative control when they’re using it in ways you like?
No, someone complained that a non-sexual pose was inappropriate and threw out a bunch of classical SJW nonsense arguments for why they should remove it.
The “creators” didn’t agree to remove it. One person on the team who orders the others around said they agreed to remove it specifically in response to the post. What likely tricked you is that you either heard about or took at face value the PR messages designed to placate the audience. You know the ones where they started by saying “We want *everyone* to feel strong and heroic in our community. The last thing we want to do is make someone feel uncomfortable, under-appreciated or misrepresented”. Said by the same people who were locking threads and deleting any comment that was in support of the pose.
Let’s not forget this little gem either “We weren’t entirely happy with the original pose, it was always one that we wrestled with creatively”. If you stopped to look at the pose in question let alone the poses of the other characters the dis-ingenuousness of this statement becomes painfully obvious.
Basically 1 of 2 two things happened. 1. the director gave into someone he thought was an SJW and then tried to cover his arse or 2. They intentionally angered their fans to get people talking about their game Borderlands vs mode.

I’m not saying I can’t enjoy full of eye-candy (I have one of the Soul Calibur games for my Xbox and it’s mostly jiggle physics). And yeah, I would like more games where I had the option of being something other than preset eye-candy. Which is one of the many reasons I like the Saint’s Row games. I like having the Boss be a women who fits my ideal of a beautiful and strong woman.
I took a look at that pic of Tracer and I don’t really see anything really sexual to it. Yeah, ok, she has tight pants and a slight wedgie, but her looking over her shoulder says (to me anyway) ‘Hey I got this’ not ‘Ogle me, boys’. But SJW-types lose their shit over this sort of thing. One of Anita Sarkeesian’s ideal female characters is a rectangle that is only female because some text says its female; the Scythian has no personality and no feminine traits. But she hates Lara Croft because she has nice T&A, a pretty face, and a personality. Most gamers above tweenage don’t care about Lara’s boobs or butt. They want a good character and a good game to play as that character.
As for the armor thing, yeah, you’re right. More realistic armor for female characters rather than a couple breast bands providing the same protection as full plate armor. And as I said above, I can get behind more customization elements to fill the void for people. I would like to say, however, that most of the ‘male’ customizations in games (at least the ones I’ve played) is muscle building/decreasing (which is often available for female characters as well) and facial hair. And while it would be mildly amusing to play as the bearded lady, the humor would wear out quickly.
And as for the ‘nobody made the creators do anything’, you’re kinda wrong. Creators are free to make their games the way they want (as long as it obeys certain laws and restrictions), but when an SJW (or a troll pretending to be an SJW) decides to lose their shit over something, it builds up into a full blown harassment campaign against the offending party, complete with threats of violence, lawsuits, and boycotts. Basically, threatening to torpedo a company because someone’s butt is showing and they are oh so offended. To quote the YouTuber ShoeOnHead (from her Oppression Olympics video), “This video game character is dressed too sexily! Change it! I’m dressed too sexily? Stop oppressing me!”. She also points out that the people losing their shit the most should probably see a therapist.
The biggest issue I have is that the SJWs who are super offended by the scantily clad (or overly stacked, or extremely attractive, or all three together) video game characters is that they throw out the same ‘objectification’ argument. Like the only reason a gamer buys a game with a woman as a main character is so he (because it’s always a he in their eyes no matter what they claim) can stand around for hours trying to peek under her clothes and stare at her boobs. It’s ridiculous, and shows how little respect they have for gaming, gamers, and art in general. As if we would go to the Louvre just to stare at the breasts of the Venus de Milo.

I actually wanted to offer a counter-point to this. It’s ridiculous to say that you can’t enjoy a game with eye candy, or that having eye candy aspects to character design makes a character flat and only a sex object. You’re right to get frustrated at those arguments!
But what frustrates me and most people I know is when, in main-stream games, there’s only eye-candy options for women, when there’s more varied options for dudes. I quite like eye-candy myself! But it can also be fun to play a woman who isn’t perfectly idealized by modern beauty standards, and it can be fun when that is still treated as acceptable and even desirable. Like, there’s a stereotype that in MMOs often clothing that translates as full armor or full-coverage clothing on guys turns super revealing on women, or that character creation options let you make a guy with basically any build whereas for girls you get curvy and skinny, short and curvy, tall and skinny, etc.
I don’t want to take away eye-candy, and I think it was silly for people to throw a fit over a single pose for a character. I would just like for there to be more varied and more non-sexualized options for female characters in games, in terms of body-shape and costuming.
(I don’t really consider myself a SJW anyway, I just wanted to give you a perspective that isn’t ‘SEXY IS BAD MUST TAKE AWAY’).
