When I started working on TiTS, the “Creature” data type, descriptor functions, and appearance screen were some of the first things to get cobbled together (along with character creation). At the time, I intended the appearance screen to be usable by any “Creature” in the game, not just the player character.
That never happened, because if I had done so, I would have probably doubled the lines of code in order to do with it – having variants with “you have” and “[target.heShe] has”. As of a few days ago, there were approximately 4,300 lines of code in appearance.as.
I finally did it. Of course I leaned on ternary operators so as not to bloat the linecount, but I can now feed any NPC (with properly set statistics) into the appearance function and get an appearance similar to the player character’s. It was a real bear, believe me, but some of the hilarity I discovered when testing almost made up for it.
For instance – did you know that Anno’s statblock had balls? When I made her, I started from a copy/paste of Syri with some edits and apparently forgot to give her a thorough neutering.
What’s the advantage of doing all that extra work? Well for enemies with fully fleshed out stat-lines, I can add an appearance button that lets you take a more exacting look at their body that the single paragraph of fluff. It also sets the stage to more easily display highly customizable NPCs if I ever go that crazy.
Oh, and I wrote a new scene for a Zheng Shi enemy and coded in Tessa’s bust too.

Updated appearance code, to be used for NPC’s as well, with the possibility of highly costumizable NPC’s in the future? Colour me interested! I think this is a great change 😀

Sometimes it’s hard to role play my character without constant picture reminders.
(Meaning as in when i check the details of my character, i see the portrait of them.)
The amount of variety available to us to edit our character would make having a generated image of our Steele extremely hard and it would look like the MLP OC generators.

Since we are on the subject of genitalia, we all know there is different types of them in this game from goo to animal, and there are items/TFs that can give you these types of genitalia, right?
What I’m trying to get at is, why is the male genitalia is the only genitalia used on NPCs and none of the female genitalia is never used on NPCs who will obviously have them besides Goo/Gel/Alien and those are even barely used?
It don’t make much sense to go “yay horsecocks and doggy dongs” and “ew horsepussy and doggy muffs”, if this is for the memes the latter is also memes as well.
What is the point of coding in all these different female genitalia for different races and not used it on said races?
At the moment PCs and Cunt Snakes are the only things in the game that uses the female genitalia code, everything else is a non-definitive vagina.
Ex: Penny is a human who modded herself into a fox, so maybe she didn’t want to mod her assumed a human vagina into a canine vagina, but given Throbb she gets a canine penis when it should match her original genitalia and be a Human Penis, because she didn’t mod that area.
